Arrangement is an interactive installation I designed in response to the exhibition series "Go To Your Art Gallery" at Fei Arts in Guangzhou, China.
In the installation, visitors are invited to alter the language of the gallery space by rearranging signs and symbols to create new meanings.
Arrangement explores how the prescribed language of a space choreographs our movements and actions within it. Signs that guide us, like "Entrance" and "Exit," construct an authoritative, if invisible, architecture. In Arrangement, this prefixed power is distributed to all present - the signs can be duplicated, recombined, and replaced.
Through rearrangement, the signs regain their status as images and text, while retaining the visual authority of their original form, granting absurd power to their new syntax. These reimagined signs coexist and collide with their original versions, confusing any definitive path and questioning the embedded monotone. In this multitone of voices, language returns to ourselves.
